Winter 2009-2010

Fun & Games

You may know grown-ups who are thinking about making New Year's resolutions. Resolutions are goals people set for themselves for the next year. People may plan to lose weight, watch less TV or try something new. Resolutions aren't just for adults. You can set one for yourself too, but it takes hard work. Try setting a New Year's resolution for yourself this year and see if you can reach your goal.

A New Year, A New You
  • Eating healthier is a great goal to set for yourself. Eat a fruit or vegetable you've never tried before – you may like it! Also, drink more milk and water – and less soda and fruit drinks.

  • Be nice to other kids. Try making friends with someone who's shy or a new kid at school.
  • Be nice to your family, too. Help out around the house and try not to fight with your brothers or sisters.

  • Help the environment by recycling things around your house. Your mom or dad can help by putting a recycling bin close to the kitchen trash can. Label the bin with colorful pictures of things you can recycle, like juice boxes, soda cans, water bottles and cereal boxes so you know what goes inside.

  • Walk or bike to places if the weather is nice instead of asking for a ride. You can get great exercise and help the environment at the same time. Just make sure to ask your mom or dad before you go.

  • Save for a rainy day. Why not start now by putting some money away in your savings account? Keep it up and you'll have money saved up for next holiday season.
