Jacob's story

Jacob did a great job helping his parents clean the house, so they decided to raise his allowance to $10 a week. Jacob knew that if he was going to get the camera he wanted, he’d have to save most of his allowance for ten weeks.

Each week, Jacob saved $7 and spent $3 on himself. When he reached the $70 needed for his new camera, he was happy. Plus, he loves taking pictures everywhere he goes. Jacob now has his mind set on a video game. Because he's a good saver, Jacob is sure to get what he wants!

Emily's story

Emily felt like queen for a day when she got $35 for her birthday. Right away, she headed to the toy store. She saw all kinds of fun stuff – teddy bears, hula hoops and candy. She decided to use some of her money to buy a board game, which cost $25.
The next week, her big brother took her to the grocery store. Emily didn't plan to buy anything. But in the end, she picked out some jelly beans, potato chips and gummy bears. Her items totaled $10.
Emily's $35 is now gone. And what did she get? She's tired of the board game and has a stomachache from all the junk food. Looking back, Emily wishes she had saved her money for something she really wanted – an MP3 player.
