We remain confident in the Hawaii Market and our ability to offer you the best in financial products and services. However, 2008 continues to be a challenge for financial institutions like ours because of problems in the national housing market and the ripple effect of the subprime lending crisis affecting our California lending businesses. However, rest assured that these challenges will have absolutely no effect on our commitment to you to be a trusted partner and true neighbor in the months and years to come.
Finally, you may have heard that I am retiring at the end of the year. While I am sad to leave the friends and relationships I've developed through the years, I've decided this is the right time for me to retire. The Company's Board of Directors has commenced a search for a new President and CEO, which will include both internal and external candidates. I remain committed to leading the bank in my current capacity and I look forward to assisting the Board in whatever way possible to identify the new CEO and ensuring a smooth and seamless transition.
