YWCA – "Power to Change"
American Savings Bank supports economic development with a $100,000 grant to YWCA |
American Savings Bank is pleased to announce that it is
donating $100,000 to the Young Women's Christian Association
of Oahu (YWCA) as part of the organization's capital campaign
to renovate its 81-year-old landmark facility, Laniakea.
The YWCA is in the midst of raising $12 million to construct
a world-class Leadership Center for the purpose of advancing
women and girls into leadership positions and providing
lifelong support systems. The "Power to Change" campaign
will also support efforts to attain long-term sustainability for
the YWCA and its programs. The renovations are expected to
increase the value-added services to members and improve the
usability and profitability of the YWCA's flagship headquarters.
American Savings Bank's contribution will allow the YWCA to
upgrade its information technology infrastructure, audio-visual
capabilities and telephone system. |

American Savings Bank launches
"First Saturday"
community program |
The American Savings Bank "First Saturday" program was developed as a means to
provide the community with a convenient way to help those in need. In conjunction with
our recently extended branch hours, all 47 American Savings Bank branches that are
open on Saturdays will serve as collection points for donated items for a designated nonprofit
organization on the first Saturday of every month.
The inaugural event was held Saturday, Dec. 1, 2007, in support of senior citizens served
by Catholic Charities Hawai'i (CCH). CCH provides services to over 40,000 people each
year through more than 30 community, social and behavioral programs that are offered
statewide, regardless of faith. As a result of First Saturday, paper goods have been
distributed to elders and those who care for them and provide housekeeping and other
chore services. Flashlights were also sent to Hilo for their Quality Living Choices Program
which works with elders in foster homes, to ensure that they have adequate emergency kits.
From April 1 to May 16, American Savings Bank in partnership with the Hawaii Bankers
Association (HBA) will support a Food Bank Drive. In additional support, April's First
Saturday event will also benefit the HBA's Food Bank Drive. Collection sites for food and
monetary donations will be set up at all American Savings Bank branches statewide.
